Mission Agency Partner

Seafarers’ Christian Friend Society

For over 170 years, SCFS has provided a lifeline to men and women, from all nations, who work at sea. If you or a loved one have ever had to isolate or remain housebound, you’ll know the feeling of disconnection that seafarers feel on a much bigger scale. With quick turnarounds at port, they rarely have the opportunity to leave their ship and get on dry land. SCFS chaplains and volunteer ship visitors have boarded thousands of ships when they arrive in port and have connected with tens of thousands of crew, both male and female, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

Our chaplains offer compassion and friendship to the seafarers and support for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. We minister to the seafarers by:

  • Onboard worship services
  • Onboard and online Bible studies
  • Christian literature and Bibles in many languages
  • In-person prayer
  • Gifts, including toiletries, knitted hats and scarves
  • Assisting with contacting with their loved ones
  • Listening to their concerns or fears
  • Visiting sick or injured seafarers in hospital

iMAP seeks to provide a forum that will enable its partners to more easily interact with each other, obtain and share information about mission opportunities and generally support and facilitate those engaged in Christian mission.

iMAP will achieve this primarily through the medium of online services and social media-based communications, and through harnessing the collective knowledge and experience of its partners within a shared community of mission agencies.
